Portraits Delivered to Ghana!!

Over the summer the children in Ghana received the BEAUTIFUL portraits created by BHS Art Club and Drawing and Painting students.  I am so proud of all that took the time and effort to complete the portraits.  Your artwork is hanging in Africa being viewed by some very grateful people.

Picasso Inspired Piece

A while ago we completed our Picasso inspired portrait.  Sebastian, one of our exceptional seniors, created a stunning pastel.  It's hard to describe all that is right with this piece.  Color, depth, movement, contrast...harmony.  We want to know who this man is?  Why was he painted this way?  Who is the artist?  Not your ordinary portrait.  Congratulations Seb!

INSPIRATION

Your next piece will be a creation of your choice that is inspire by a great work of art, architecture, design...etc.  You will decide on the piece after doing some research.  There are many styles of drawing and paintings with a range of subject matter that you can draw upon. The  MOMA and Yale University Art Gallery have an amazing array of work.  If you choose an artist that is on exhibit at either one of these museums you should try to view their work in person.  You could also base your piece and iconic sculpture, building, poster…etc. The Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal are all memorable because of their design.  All artists are influenced by the work of previous artists. We will look at some examples of this in class.  We have already viewed Las Meninas by Picassso which was influenced by Velazquez's piece with the same name. He used the same composition but represented everything in a less realistic way. How will you represent the piece you have chosen in your work?  YOU should create a unique work of art using paint, pencil, ink or all of the above.   CREATE something meaningful to you!  View the document below to get all of the information you need to begin...

Drawing Submission for Calliope!

Don't forget to get your artwork to me for Calliope!

Great work Vicky!

Really? At what cost do we want to sell a product?

Take a look at the transformation of this model.  The images we see of models in advertisements is so unrealistic.  Is this false advertisement?  What do you think?

Monday May 4

All Students should be working on coursework:

Advanced Drawing and Painting:  Complete Calliope sketchbook assignment or Activist Mixed-Media piece.  We will be critiquing both on Wednesday.  I look forward to seeing your work.

Yearbook:  The supplement and spring sports pages will be due very soon.  Do all you can do with the photos you have.  If you have finished your page review it with another student.  Decide together if this is the best layout for the sports sections.  Should we come up with something else?

Ceramics:   Sketches for the Final Project are due May 8 and all other projects should be completed by then.  If you have an idea you love you can begin the project.
