Hard to believe it is the beginning of the school year and the end of a beautiful, but brief summer. I hope everyone is rejuvenated and ready to start the new year.  I am very excited to meet everyone and get started creating art!               Mrs.Kaiser

Dreamweaver

Designing for the Web

Over the years Web Design has gone through many changes.
The web design software we will be using lets designers (like us)  create websites by writing code for us, however you still need to know quite a few things about the language(s) the program uses.  I will show you some simple, ways to design a website using Dreamweaver and you will show me how to create a website using the most current methods.  First start by going to Adobe.com for HELP! 

Answer the following questions:

• What is a “div tag” and how do you create them in Dreamweaver?  (You need to be able to create a web page using div tags so make sure you have step by step directions.  They can be copy and pasted into this document.  I suggest you have a few resources for this.) 

• What is CSS and how does it apply to div tags?

• How do you create CSS in  Dreamweaver?

• What are the benefits of using div tags and CSS instead of tables? 

• List 3 resources (besides adobe.com) that were utilized to answer questions.

Mixed-Media

 Demonstrate your drawing & painting skills by creating small drawings and paintings of the same object using a variety of mediums. A realistic pencil and watercolor rendering are required.    The remaining two could be acrylic, pastel or mixed-media (it doesn’t have to be realistic). One of these two has to be a creative and unique rendering.   The object could be a seashell, apple, tool of some sort, vase, bowl…any object. You are required to show the 5 elements of shading in the works that are realistic and in the less realistic you should aspire to be creative and original.

As we approach the final month of class you will be learning the basics of Dreamweaver Cs5.5.  You will use your knowledge of Flash and Photoshop to help you make a creative website.  Now that we have critiqued many websites we know what elements you need to create a successful website. Apply what you have learned to your own site. Answer the questions about your concept in the Final Exam Project Document.

Sgraffito

Ceramics

Sgraffito (in Italian "to scratch") is a decorating pottery technique created by applying layers of under glazes, colored slips, or engobe to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layers to create contrasting images, patterns, and texture to reveal the clay color underneath.  Below are some examples of the technique. Home Page Critique

Designing for the Web

As we begin designing our home page for our website we need to understand what makes the home or index page successful?  The home page is the first page a viewer sees so it needs to function properly and be appealing. We will view several websites in class and discuss what elements are making it work or not.  You will then find two websites that you will critique.  One should be an example of a poorly designed site and the other a successful one.  Use the, "Elements of a Successful Website" document as you critique the websites.  View the "Website Critique" document for your complete assignment.
