Drawing and Painting Now that you have worked with a dark value on a light background, lets try the reverse. We will be focusing on how to show core shadows and cast shadows by leaving the paper free of charcoal. This is an extremely difficult exercise because you will want to start with a contour drawing, BUT DONT! If you do then you may be placing a light value where a dark one should be. It is tricky! Check out this you-tube video showing the process of drawing a cat using only a white charcoal pencil.
Intro to Drawing and Painting Complete a pencil drawing in your sketchbook of a sphere or egg that clearly shows the 5 elements of shading. Take a look at the "shading document" to better understand these elements.
Art students have the opportunity to participate in a project that makes children happy across the world! Ben Shumaker, founder of the Memory Project, takes photographs of orphans and then matches them up with artists that are interested in creating a portrait. Check out the work from years past at BHS Art Club Memory Project. View portraits being delivered at portraits arrive. There is a $15 fee for each portrait to be delivered. Please let me know by Wednesday October 2 if you are interested in participating in this fulfilling experience.
