Re-Design Van's
Van's as Art.
We have been using Google Drawing and Sketchpad 5.1 a lot lately. Since you are all getting used to the program I thought it might be fun to do a little textile designing. Import the photograph of the white sneaker into Google Drawing or Sketchpad and use it as a template. Design right on top of the photograph.

This one looks like it was created using the poly-line tool in
Google Drawing.

Vector Mosaics
A mosaic is a pattern or image made of small regular or irregular pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic, held in place by plaster/mortar, and covering a surface. Mosaics are often used as floor and wall decoration, and were particularly popular in the Ancient Roman world.
Antonio Gaudi: Antoni Gaudà used a striking combination of modernism and mixed media in his mosaics. His style is highly unique and distinct, featuring themes that matter most to him: nature, religion, and architecture. His method was to create his work in three-dimensional models, adding details as he went, rather than planning his art beforehand.
Laurel True: Muralist and mosaic artist Laurel True is the founder of Mosaic Art, one of the first formal institutes dedicated to mosaics in the U.S. She makes her art from ceramic, glass, and mirror but also incorporates salvaged building materials. Over her 25 years specializing in mosaics, she has worked on more than 100 projects, many of which are available to view in public spaces across the world. You can find her art across Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
Pietro Cavallini: Pietro Cavallini. Born in 1250, probably in Rome, Italy, Cavallini was active during the Middle Ages. Although few details about his personal life are known, many of his paintings and mosaics are well preserved.

Thumbnail Sketch of Still-Life
Focus on Values and the Elements of Shading
Choose a fall still-life photograph another value study.
We started off with a pear, now we are moving on to multiple objects. Look for the lightest light and the darkest dark. Then add all the values in-between. This sketch doesn't have to be super-realistic, but try to get the values as correct as possible.

Your Eye...
Look at the drawing you created of your eyes or look at your eyes in the mirror.
Draw one of your eyes close up on the paper.
You can have it super-close, cropping out everything but your eye or you can do what I did and include some of your face in the drawing. You have the option to use regular pencil or watercolor pencil.
