Watercolor Painting Reflection

In your sketchbook reflect on the process of using watercolors answering the following questions:

What challenges did you face using watercolor paint?

What techniques did you use when painting with watercolors? Also describe important factors that help with the final look of your painting.

Review the Elements and Principles of Design.  Which Elements and Principles are prominent in your painting?

Intro to Drawing and Painting

Your next artistic challenge will be to create an acrylic painting that shows your knowledge of perspective. Create the illusion of space by portraying objects and architecture the correct size and proportion.  Create the illusion of space on one and two point perspective in your sketchbook using colored watercolor pencil. In your sketch include the value changes that occur.  We will build upon this drawing.

In the last week you should have completed a color wheel and a vocabulary chart using watercolor. This week complete one work of art showing the dry and wet brush technique. Your painting can be a representational still-life, self-portrait or portrait, or an abstract painting of something realistic.  Due Friday 12/11

 Intro to Drawing and Painting

Now that you have been drawing realistic features, trying to create the correct tones in the skin using pencil, now it is time to move away from reality and use an imaginative, expressionistic color scheme.  Why do this?  Because art isn't only about being able to manipulate a medium to represent reality it is also used to express oneself.   During a time when Picasso had experienced loss he created paintings that reflected his mood and used the color blue to accentuate this. The fauvist used many vibrant colors, not necessarily to express happiness or jovial times, but to break away from traditional art.  In the next few classes we will explore color schemes.  Take a look at the work below to see colors used in a non-traditional way. Also review the Color Vocabulary List because there will be an assessment of color terms at the end of the project.

Now that we have studied our own faces, its time to branch out...Choose one of these people, you may recognize them, to draw.  These faces are not straight forward, literally.   Try to show the features correctly, in proportion.  The shape and angle are important as well.  Really examine everything before starting your drawing. Due 12/2  AFTER drawing one of these political figures you finally go draw ANYONE you like!!  It can be a realistic value drawing or a caricature, it is totally up to you. The only criteria it must have some resemblance to the person you are drawing.  Due 12/9
