Creating a Spry Menu Bar

Designing for the Web

A drop-down spry menu bar "widget" is available in Dreamweaver Cs5.5.  I would like every student to create one of their web pages using spry menu bar.  Please read the following tutorial about the spry menu and search for other websites that will teach you the process of creating a spry menu.

BHS Student Websites

Designing for the Web

When teaching the intro class one of my goals is to help students understand how the elements and principles of design apply to creating a website. It is also crucial for students to understand that usually  graphic designers collaborate with web designers and programmers. Dreamweaver CS5.5 has so many templates that some people may think that you do not need to be an artist to design a great website.  I think aesthetics and artistry are relevant when creating a website or blog. In this class students take on roles of graphic designer, computer programmer, and website designer, but there is emphasis on the "designer" part.   Students learn the basics of Flash, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver to allow them to create a well-designed site. Below are a few examples of student work. One student created a website about his band, another about his college search, and then there are the sites about coffee and tea. These were done in a very short period of time, but are wonderful first attempts.  Click on the image to navigate to the site's home page.

Students visit MFA Design and Technology Exhibit at Parsons

Advanced Drawing and Painting and BHS Art Club

Students soak up the MFA Fine Art and the Design and Technology exhibit at Parsons.  Take a look with the students as they interact with this inspiring exhibit.

PART OF PARSONS FESTIVAL 2012: A two-week gallery exhibition featuring installations and performances, objects and apps, games and video, and interactive experiences that explore the dynamic role of technology in our current lives. These 80 projects represent a unique convergence of effort designed to explore issues related to technology--including its value. We invoke the playful, the informative, the employing, the critical, and the subversive to investigate emerging issues and provoke discussion.

I love seeing the objects start to come to life as the students create a range of values. Great work! Click on each picture for a better look.

Painting Vocabulary

Advanced Drawing and Painting

Today in class you will receive a list of relevant words and definitions that will help you enhance your ability to understand and talk about art.  Just like music, science and other disciplines there is a language to art.  You will draw upon this vocabulary as we critique the paintings we are working on in class.

Pastels portraits are developing....

Advanced Drawing and Painting

Here are a few examples of the pastel portraits in progress.  I am thrilled to see students' individual styles shining through as the portraits start to take shape.
